Attendance

Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day

Reflecting the belief that every child can and will learn at high levels, Lincoln Elementary is committed to developing a community of lifelong learners where students have opportunities to reach their fullest potential as scholars, citizens, and leaders.

ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance is important for a student to do well in school. Excellent Attendance awards are given each trimester. At the end of the school year, students with excellent attendance and participation for the school year will be eligible for special recognition.

However, students should not be sent to school when they are ill. Attendance will not be counted for a student if they check in the office and pick up homework only. The student must be engaged in instruction under immediate supervision of certificated staff. It is the student's responsibility to obtain make-up work for times when they are absent. The laws of the State of California require attendance of every person under the age of 18. The law allows an excused absence for the following reasons: Illness, doctor or dentist appointments (with a doctor's note), and/or death/funeral of a member of the immediate family. All other absences are unexcused. A note should be sent to the school following any absence or the parent may call the school office. The parent should report the child’s name, teacher, identify who is placing the call (mother, father, etc.), and let us know the reason for absence and the date they were absent.

TARDIES

Students are expected to arrive at school on time. Classes begin at 8:00am. Students arriving to their classroom after the 8:00am bell must report to the office before entering their classrooms. After three tardies of 30 minutes or more, the district’s SARB policy will be followed. If you would like more details of the SARB policy and procedures, please contact the office.

Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) Information

Regular school attendance is essential for student success. Under the California Education Code (EC 48200–48273), all students between the ages of 6 and 18 are required to attend school on a regular basis.

When a student is frequently absent or tardy without valid excuses, the school will notify parents/guardians and provide support to improve attendance. If attendance does not improve, the case may be referred to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB).

The SARB process is designed to:

  • Work with families to identify barriers to attendance

  • Provide resources and supports to improve school engagement

  • Ensure compliance with California’s compulsory education laws

Our school is committed to supporting students and families in overcoming challenges to regular attendance. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact the school office.
